PENAMPANG: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman has urged Malaysians particularly those in Sabah to join the national Pesta Kaamatan celebrations in Kota Kinabalu on June 7.
He said the festival was a manifestation of Sabah’s economy, social and culture and should be appreciated not only by the Kadazandusun and Murut (KDM) community but also the state’s multi-racial population.
“Although the festival is aimed at protecting the cultures and traditions, other communities can take the positives in line with the 1Malaysia concept inspired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“The festival is proof of the strong unity and harmony of the people,” he said when closing the state level Pesta Kaamatan at Hongkod Koisaan building here yesterday.
The national Pesta Kaamatan celebrations to be held at Padang Merdeka, Kota Kinabalu next week would be launched by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan hopes that the celebrations would be produced in the form of documentaries, journals and books showcasing the cultural heritage of KDM.
Pairin who was also organising committee chairman thanked Musa for the state government’s contribution of RM800,000 to the Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA).
