Kota Kinabalu: Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri said Saturday the additional flights Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has put on for the Aidilfitri and school holiday seasons should come as good news for the people of Sabah and Sarawak.
The additional 15,600 seats would better facilitate travel between the two states and Peninsular Malaysia, he said during a visit to the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, here.
MAS has announced 12 extra flights to Kota Kinabalu, 10 to Kuching, three to Tawau, three to Miri, two to Bintulu and one to Sibu in East Malaysia.
Aidilfitri is likely to fall on Sept 10 and 11, while the school holidays are from Sept 4 to 12.
Abdul Rahim said as Kota Kinabalu would host the Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16, which is now a federal public holiday, additional flights during that time would enable more people from Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak to visit Sabah.
