SANDAKAN: Postal voters began casting their ballots in Batu Sapi as the candidates stepped up their campaign in the final stretch before tomorrow’s polling.
Barisan Nasional’s Datin Linda Tsen Thau Lin, who is leading her two rivals – Sabah Progressive Party’s Datuk Yong Teck Lee and PKR’s Ansari Abdullah – kept up with her personal touch by meeting voters at their homes, markets and other public places.
“I’m facing two seasoned politicians. It’s a tough fight. But I’m going to keep at it right to the end,” she said after attending Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman’s lunch with the media at his Sri Libaran residence yesterday.
The message from Tsen, the widow of Batu Sapi MP Datuk Edmund Chong Ket Wah, is: “Give me a chance to complete my husband’s unfinished work in Batu Sapi.”
Her husband had pushed for the RM5mil project but he did not live to see it becoming a reality.
He died in a traffic mishap on Oct 9.
As Tsen witnessed the ceremony yesterday, she was even more driven to continue her husband’s unfinished work in the vast constituency that is more than twice the size of Penang island.
“I was devastated to lose Edmund. But I realised he had strove to get many things done for his constituents, including this road. I want to make sure all his efforts come to fruition,” she said.
Meanwhile, Yong and his team continued their door-to-door campaign and gatherings in homes of party workers.
Their effort was gaining ground, he said.
Ansari, who is widely seen to be trailing in third spot, is banking on PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to boost his campaign.
