Synopsis

Wisconsin. She dropped out of high school to pursue racing. In 2002 she signed with Rahal- Letterman Racing. Patrick was the fourth woman to race in the Indianapolis 500. Her 4th place finish was the highest ever for a female driver and she was the first woman ever to lead in the race.

Profile

Race car driver. Born Danica Sue Patrick on March 25, 1982 in Beloit, Wisconsin. Patrick began racing go-karts with her sister at age 10 and dropped out of high school to advance her racing career in England. It was there that she finished second at the Formula Ford Festival, the highest-ever finish by either a woman or an American in the event. In 2002, Patrick signed with Rahal- Letterman Racing, which is co-owned by former driver Bobby Rahal and talk show host David Letterman. During the next two years, Patrick achieved moderate success and was a consistent finisher on the podium, but never won a race.
In 2005, Patrick became the fourth woman to race in the Indianapolis 500. Her fourth place finish was the highest ever for a female driver, besting the previous record of ninth set by Janet Guthrie in 1978. She led 19 laps of the race, becoming the first woman ever to lead the Indy 500. Later that year at Kansas Speedway, she won her first pole position to become the second woman to accomplish this feat in the IRL (Indy Racing League) IndyCar Series. Patrick was named Rookie of The Year at the 2005 IRL Championship.
Patrick's 2006 year began tragically when teammate Paul Dana was killed in a crash the morning of the Toyota Indy 300. Patrick had solid top ten finishes throughout her IRL campaign that year, coming in 9th place in the standings. Among many honors, she was named Female Athlete of the Year by the United States Sports Academy.
Her status as a female race car driver, combined with her youth and good looks, has netted Patrick numerous media opportunities. She's served as a host on Spike TV, been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated, and has appeared in commercials and music videos. In 2006, she published her autobiography, Danica: Crossing the Line.
Patrick married physical therapist Paul Edward Hospenthal in 2005.

Patrick, Newman both thrilled with crew chief shuffle

7:57PM EDT October 19. 2012 - KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Danica Patrick will have a new crew chief and Ryan Newman will work with an old friend in a shakeup announced Friday by Stewart-Haas Racing.
Tony Gibson, who has been Ryan Newman's crew chief the past four seasons, will become Patrick's crew chief beginning Monday. His team will also will move to work with Patrick. Her crew chief in her limited Cup races has been Greg Zipadelli, competition director at Stewart-Haas.
Newman will be paired with Matt Borland, vice president of competition at Stewart-Haas Racing. They won 12 races and 37 poles in that same capacity at Penske Racing from 2002-06 before Newman said officials at Penske separated them.
Steve Addington will remain Tony Stewart's crew chief.
Patrick, who is competing in both the Nationwide and Cup races this weekend at Kansas Speedway, will run in Cup races at Texas and Phoenix with Gibson and his crew as she prepares to run in Cup full time next year.
"I've always felt really comfortable around Tony," said Patrick, who will start 40th in Sunday's Cup race at Kansas. "I feel like he's always listened to me. I have a lot of respect for him. Most of all, I trust in what they decide for me because I'm not experienced enough to make those calls. That's why I went with a team like them because I know they're' going to give me what I need."
With Newman not in the Chase and Patrick running a partial Cup schedule, it makes sense to make these moves.
"Any practice we can get this year is a step ahead for next year and (Gibson) can get to thinking over the winter about my driving style and we can sort of fine tune the language between each other," Patrick said.
The 47-year-old Gibson has worked in NASCAR since the 1980s. He was a crew member on Alan Kulwicki's championship team in 1992 and a car chief on Jeff Gordon's championship teams in 1998 and 2001. He's worked with Mark Martin, Aric Almirola and Newman as a crew chief.
Gibson said he's focused on the future with Patrick.
"You're not looking about next year, you're looking about the year after that," Gibson said. "She knows it's going to take her a little bit to get going and we know that. It's something we're willing to grow together on."
Patrick's best finish in seven previous Cup races this season is 25th last month at Chicagoland Speedway. She has two top-10 finishes in 29 Nationwide starts this season.
"Seat time is what she needs," Gibson said. "Everybody has to start somewhere. But you have to believe in them. We're up for the challenge and we're up for whatever we have to do to make her comfortable."
A key will be how well Gibson and Patrick develop a crew chief-driver relationship. Some of that will come based on what they have in common not only at the track but away from it.
"If I can get her to go hunting with me and listen to country music, we've got it made," Gibson said with a smile.
There be no need for such introductions with Borland and Newman. Borland was Newman's best man at his wedding and they formed one of the more potent combinations during their five seasons together. Borland will be with Newman next week at Martinsville Speedway.
Newman admits he didn't think of such a reunion because he didn't think Borland was interested in being a crew chief again until officials at Stewart-Haas Racing suggested it.
"Matt came out to my farm, bailed hay, hung out and just talked about the possibilities and here we are," Newman said. "We know we can get the job done."

Psy’d effect: ‘Gangnam’ calms cranky babies

Benjamin Tsai, right, of London was a very fussy eater until his father introduced him to Gangnam Style. >

Turns out babies also go gaga for “Gangnam.”

Two new viral videos on YouTube show South Korean rapper Psy’s hit single “Gangnam Style” has the surprising side effect of calming down some pretty cranky babies.

In one video uploaded late last month, cute Claire Bowman from West Virginia starts to cry while her father watches a Saturday football game with a friend.

Out of nowhere, Psy’s thumping techno beat starts to play. Claire turns toward the camera and starts to smile — silently.

Gangnam fever 'just the beginning' for new Korean wave

BUSAN, South Korea, Oct 18, 2012 (AFP) - The phenomenal success of "Gangnam Style" is just the start of a new surge of attention for Korean entertainment, according to the man responsible for some of South Korea's biggest films.

"When you look at Korean music or Korean films they are very Hollywood-like in terms of production standards," said producer Jonathan H. Kim, speaking on the sidelines of last week's Busan International Film Festival.

"There's also a degree of people from other countries looking at Korean movies and saying 'Wow: their values are similar to ours'."

A 30-year veteran of the Korean film industry, Kim has been behind five of his country's 50 biggest box office hits. Among them is war epic "Silmido" (2003), the first film to attract more than 10 million viewers in South Korea.

As well as producing films, Kim is a business advisor to the sprawling CJ Entertainment & Media group, South Korea's largest in terms of film production, investment and distribution.

He also hosts seminars on investing in its entertainment industry and its potential for growth at home and beyond.

"These films travel well because production values are very high," Kim told AFP. "But it is also about Korean people's passion and their impatience. If the movies aren't great, people just leave the theatre."

Kim believes the current strength of Korean cinema -- and the global appeal of Korean entertainment in general -- had its beginnings in 2003, with the emergence of film directors such as Park Chan-Wook ("Oldboy") and wildly successful TV dramas such as the drama "Winter Sonata".

"A lot of territories saw Korean films as an alternative to B-grade Hollywood movies as they were cheaper and artistically we were getting a lot of awards from festivals," said Kim.

Attention has been renewed, helped by the box-office success of heist-thriller "The Thieves" and the dance moves of 34-year-old rapper Psy, whose "Gangnam Style" has amassed more than 450 million YouTube hits.
South Korea's K-pop has in the past 10 years defied language barriers to entice fans around the world, but glossy products such as Super Junior and Girls' Generation have not won Psy's level of global recognition.
The rapper has performed his unique horse-riding dance at the MTV awards in Los Angeles and appeared in a cameo on NBC's "Saturday Night Live".

"The surprise with Psy is that he didn't try to look Hollywood. It's pure Korean," said Kim. "That is making a lot of people re-evaluate the Korean wave and cinema is at the forefront of that."

Record-breaking year

The Busan festival programme was loaded with acclaimed contemporary Korean cinema, including politically edged thriller "National Security", "A Werewolf Boy" and the recent local box office hit "Nameless Gangster: Rules of Time".

Maverick director Kim Ki-Duk's gritty revenge thriller "Pieta" also played in Busan, a month after taking the major prize at the Venice International Film Festival - the first time the Golden Lion had gone to a Korean production.

Festival goers packed out a special outdoor screening of the country's new box office champion "The Thieves" which has now been seen by more than 13 million people in South Korea, reaping more than 93 billion won ($84 million). "I think the wave is just getting started," said Choi Dong-Hoon, the director of the smash-hit heist thriller.

"Korean commercial films have their conventional characteristics but if you study them one-by-one, each of them is unique. It's hard to compare with other countries," he said.

"The story is usually very powerful and each character has complicated issues. I think this relates to the nature of Korean people."

Korean cinema itself is on target for a record-breaking year.

The Korean Film Council recently announced around 120 million cinema tickets had been sold across the country by the end of the second quarter of 2012, a year-on-year rise of around 20 percent.

"I think Korean movies are becoming more exciting and vigorous," said Choi. "Filmmakers have put a lot of effort into finding different themes to work on. As a director, I love how the cinema is doing right now and I think audiences share the same view."

Alongside established names, the festival also showcased the works of younger talent hoping to ride the Korean wave.

Lee Donku might have only spent US$3,000 on putting together his tense thriller "Fatal" but the film was selected in the Busan festival's main New Currents award, which offers two prizes of US$30,000 for first- or second-time Asian filmmakers.

While the cash went to Thailand's Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit ("36") and Iran's Maryam Najafi ("Kayan"), Lee said he was honored to have his first film nominated and is grateful to Psy for capturing so much attention.

"I really like Psy's "Gangnam Style" and so do Koreans," he said. "And as other countries like his song so much, having such a passion for it, the growing interest in Korean culture is helping to attract more attention to our movies.

"As Korean culture gets more popular, it helps me as well."

Psy: Mel B is better dancer than Britney

Psy says Mel B outdid Britney Spears when performing the Gangnam Style dance.

The South Korean singer shot to number one on charts worldwide with the catchy song, which features its own dance routine.

Several celebrities have tried to imitate Psy’s moves, such as The X Factor US judge Britney and former Spice Girl Mel B, who recently performed the dance with Psy on the Australian version of The X Factor.

“I was with Britney on The Ellen [DeGeneres] Show and at that time I told them the mind-set of the Gangnam Style is to dress classy and dance cheesy,” he explained to Australian radio hosts Kyle and Jackie O.

“Did you see Mel B’s face? She was like, ‘Look at me, I’m on it!’ Britney was good but Mel B, her moves were more dynamic.”

Psy is signed to the Schoolboy Records label, run by Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun.
The star will always be grateful to Braun and hopes the opportunity will also bring the chance to collaborate with Justin himself.

“Scooter Braun came to me and he said, ‘I want to release your song just as it is, in Korean’. And that was such a touching moment, because even if it’s successful or not that’s history, you know, lyrics in Korean,” he explained.

“I am going to release my own new single but somewhere in the near future I will work with Justin Bieber. There will be a lot more English in my new single.”

Invest in Gold?

I found this advertisement in http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/business/page/2/. I very wonder how to invest in "gold".

GOLD is a big issues in newspapers recently. We heard that some Gold company doing money laundering. True or Not? Let's wait the authority investigations.

Introduction to basic asset classes

The word “asset” can be interpreted in many ways.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Generally, an asset is defined as something of value to someone. A car is an asset. A house is an asset too. Even something as abstract as “knowledge” is considered an asset (in this case, a human asset). Of course, while the same car or house may be an asset to someone, it could also be a liability to another person – it all depends on whether the owner derives any value from owning the car or house.

Take for example, if you own a car that consistently breaks down, is very expensive to maintain and causes more frustration than pleasure, you could easily argue that the car represents more of a liability to you than an asset.

In the investment world, many different types of assets exist. These assets can be divided into categories based on a number of characteristics (e.g. the asset’s return and risk profile, the type of income it provides, the amount of initial investment etc).

As an investor, you should have a good grasp of the main asset classes that exist and the differences between them. Let’s take a look at some of these key asset classes below:

Cash

As its name suggests, cash is simply… cash i.e. the paper money in your wallet. However, in the investment world, the “cash” asset class is normally defined as investments that can easily be transformed into cash within a short period (usually 12 months). Under this boarder definition, cash would include any money in your savings, current, or fixed deposit account.

Cash investments typically offer investors a very low level of return (profit), but are also very low risk – you seldom lose money by investing in cash.

Bonds

Bonds are similar to loans. As a bond investor, you “lend” money to the bond issuer, who is typically a government or a large corporation. In return for lending money, you are promised a regular interest payment throughout the loan period.

One of the primary risks to a bond investor is in the form of “counterparty risk” – the risk that the borrower fails to repay you the money you lent. Due to the nature of these borrowers (e.g. government or large corporations), bonds are generally considered low risk investments. Bonds usually also have low level of returns, although, they tend to be higher than cash.
Property

Many people are familiar with property investments – these are physical, brick-and-mortar assets, usually in the form of a house or an apartment, that appreciate / depreciate in value and pay a regular income known as “rent”.

Property investments also include shop lots, retail outlets, and on a larger scale – shopping malls, hotels, office buildings and industrial parks.

Share

A share (or share certificate) is a legal document that certifies ownership of a specific company. When you own shares in a company, you are considered to be a part-owner of the company (i.e. a “shareholder”). As a part-owner or shareholder, you benefit from any growth of the company.

Returns from investing in shares come in the form of income (dividend) or capital growth (increase in the share price).

Share investments are typically considered to have high level of risk and high potential return over the long term compared to cash, bonds or property.

See table below for the differences between major asset classes:

Man dies after cockroach-eating contest

MIAMI: A US man died after winning a cockroach and worm eating contest at a Florida reptile house over the weekend, police said.

Edward Archbold, 32, had eaten several dozen roaches and worms Friday as part of the contest to win an exotic python.

He later began vomiting and was picked up by an ambulance in front of the shop, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Archbold was later pronounced dead at a hospital, and the medical examiner’s office will be performing an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The contest was held by Ben Siegel Reptiles, which offered different prize pythons for whomever could eat the most of different categories of bugs.

“How many giant roaches would you eat for a female ivory-ball python?” the reptile store said on a Facebook page advertising the contest.

“Here’s how it works: Eat the most bugs in 4 minutes, win the ball morph. That’s it. Oh yeah, any vomiting is an automatic DQ.”

The reptile shop later published a message expressing sadness about Archbold’s death, saying: “We just met him the night of our sale but all liked him very much. He was outgoing and was fun and got the crowd very worked up and excited. We are sorry we will not get to know him better.”

The shop also posted a statement from an attorney.

Archbold, who went by Edward William Barry on Facebook, said he had taken part in a super worm eating contest earlier in the evening.

“So I guess I’m in a cockroach eating contest tonight… wish me luck :),” he posted on October 5, hours before his death.

Friends later posted messages of condolence on his page, with one writing: “never thought id hear the day…i truly believed u were untouchable as i am sure many others did too!!“—AFP

Gangnam style gets UN stamp of approval

PARIS: "Gangnam Style" has secured an unlikely accolade after UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon hailed South Korean rapper Psy's global hit as a force for world peace.

Ban has found himself displaced as the best-known Korean on the planet by the astonishing success of the chubby rapper's catchy video - and the veteran diplomat could not be more delighted.

"I have seen it several times," the 68-year-old revealed in an interview with AFP on Tuesday, voicing his pride at the way Psy had brought Korean pop and the nation's quirky sense of humour to a global audience via the Internet, where the video has been viewed more than 400 million times.

"I'm very proud that his performance has been loved and enjoyed by more than 400 million people," Ban said. "It is amazing."

The UN chief added: "There are no languages required in the musical world. That is the power of music, that is the power of the heart.

"Through this promotion of arts we can better understand the culture and civilisations of other people.

"In this era of instability and intolerance we need to promote better understanding through the power of music." - AFP

More school days next year

PETALING JAYA: Parents who want to book holidays with their children next year should bear in mind that there will be more school days.

There will be 205 school days two days more than this year. Students will also get a shorter break with 84 holidays next year compared with 87 days this year.

However, the good news is that there are many state public holidays which would coincide with school breaks.

Those celebrating Good Friday on March 29 would be able to enjoy a longer break that month.
The Harvest Festival and Gawai in May and June coincide with the mid-year break as does Hari Raya Aidilfirtri which is expected to fall within the two-week break in August.

Next year's school calendar, as shown on the Education Ministry's website, showed that students go back to school on Jan 2 in all states except Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, where classes start a day earlier (see chart).

School heads can apply for four days of cuti peristiwa (occasional holiday), which need not be replaced.
They can also apply for cuti ganti (replacement holiday), which is subject to approval by the respective state education departments.

The year-end break will start on Nov 15 next year, except in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu where the holidays start a day earlier.

一、不斷從薪水中撥出部份款項存起來,5%、10%、25%都可,反正一定要存;
二、搞清楚你的錢每天、每週、每月流向哪裡,也就是要詳細列出預算與支出;
三、檢查、核對所有的收據,看看商家有沒有多收費;
四、銀行卡只保留一張,能夠證明自己的身份就夠了;
五、自帶飯菜上班,省下的錢可存來作退休基金;
六、與人合乘公共交通工具上下班,節省停車費、汽油費、保險費及找停車位的時間;
七、多讀些有關管理、投資致富的“實用手冊",最好從圖書館借,或從因特網下載,省錢;
八、簡化生活,房子不用太大。買二手商品,到廉價商店、拍賣場等處購物;
九、買東西時別忘想想“花這錢值不值得",便宜貨不見得划得來,貴也不一定能保證質量;

New KK parking rates Nov

Kota Kinabalu: City Hall, which has finalised its parking rate review, will likely have it enforced earlier in November.

Mayor, Datuk Abidin Madingkir, said the new structured rates - which will come with a 30 per cent discount - will still require the State Cabinet's endorsement. This comes after his announcement last month that City Hall is conducting a two-month review over the issue.

"We will announce the parking structures at the nearest time, we have completed the new structure and will present it to the Cabinet.

"We expect the Cabinet would respond to us by end of this month (October) and we will announce it the soonest thereafter," Madingkir said.

He said the press would be invited for the announcement to ensure it will be well publicised and to ensure the public is aware and clear on the new parking rate structures.

Beijing students top the UMS newcomers

Kota Kinabalu: Students from China topped the list of international students who registered for the International Student Foundation Programme (ISFP) conducted by UMS Link Holdings Sdn Bhd, here, Monday.

A total of 98 international students between the ages of 18 and 22, comprising 95 from China, two from Turkey and one from Iraq would undergo a six-month preparatory course, which will prepare them for the certificate of English Language Competency and Foundation Examination.

UMS Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Harun Abdullah in his welcoming speech said UMS intends to increase the number of international students even further. Harun who was represented by the Centre for International Affairs Director Dr Jenny Liew said UMS would soon align its curriculum with the majority of education systems around the world.

"UMS is located at Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah which is known as the melting pot for multiracial and cosmopolitan attributes, having serene and splendid coastal areas as well as recreational avenues for all, I therefore hope students would develop strong friendship and learn from each other as well as from the locals," he said.

Meanwhile, UMS Link Holdings Acting Chief Operating Officer Wan Mohd Azeelan Adnan said the programme highlights English language skills at both introductory and intermediate levels and focuses on each skill suitable for learners of English as a second or foreign language.

"This would enable them to continue their undergraduate or postgraduate studies at UMS," he added.
He said many of the international alumni students have found employment as bankers, executives and managers in various sectors in their respective country.

"These alumni students becoming the international ambassadors for UMS shows the success of the ISFP in creating and nurturing creative and capable students.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Nicole Lu Jia Yun, from Chengdu, Sichuan in China said she chose to study in UMS after picking up a book about Sabah at a bookstore nine months ago.

Lu, who has never travelled out of China said she was initially looking for a guide book on Cambodia but accidentally picked up a book on Malaysia.

"I started flipping through the pages randomly and that's when I read about Sabah," she said, adding that Sabah is such a beautiful place with lots of trees and many things which she doesn't see in her hometown.
"That's when I decided to come here to study," said Lu who plans to be an accountant.

For 18-year-old Stephen Lee Xiang also from China, coming here was already part of his plan because his brother was also studying at UMS.

"When he came back home, he said Sabah is good and UMS is among the most beautiful universities in the world and if I wanted to study abroad I should choose UMS," said Lee. "When I arrived here, the place is indeed so fresh, the jungle, the coconuts which I don't see in my hometown," he said, Meanwhile, 22-year-old Zaid Kamil from Baghdad said he chose UMS because it's recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education in Iraq and has a prestigious and good reputation.

"I was a bit confused when I landed here because it's the first time I've travelled outside my country but I'm impressed with this wonderful place," said Zaid who plans to continue his degree in Biotechnology here.

Who Is PSY?

Known in the K-Pop world as PSY, Park Jae Sang was born on December 31, 1977 and was a controversial, underground South Korean hip-hop artist. While his albums have won him some critical praise, and his satirical slant on the state of K-Pop has won him fans and appearances on television, his music has been on the fringe due to what the authorities cite as ‘inappropriate content.' His first album got him fined, and his second was banned. That being said, from 2001 to 2006, Park Jae Sang released three albums. ~ Chris True, All Music Guide

Oxy Gang carts away RM250,000 from ATM

BANGI: A group of thieves, believed to be from the notorious Oxy Gang', cut into an ATM at the Tabung Haji building here and escaped with RM250,000.

The theft was believed to have been carried out between 2.30am and 4.20am yesterday.
Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Mohd Adnan Abdullah said several passers-by spotted smoke coming from a bank and called the Fire and Rescue Department at about 4.20am.

“The theft was discovered after the blaze was put out, revealing the ATM which was cut open with an oxy-acetylene blow torch,” he said.

SAC Mohd Adnan said initial investigations revealed that the thieves had used a blowtorch to open one of the five ATMs in the building.

“The CCTVs in the building were also found to have been tampered with,” he added.
The “Oxy Gang” got its name from the thieves' method of breaking into the thick shell of ATMs.
The group is believed to be behind a string of similar robberies amounting to losses of about RM1.3mil in cash.

From June 1 to Sept 14, the gang had stolen money from a number of ATMs at several places, including Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, Taman Permata, Wangsa Maju and Seremban 2.

Those with information on the cases are urged to contact the Selangor police hotline at 03-2052 9999 or the nearest police station.

Gangnam Style parody lands Thai sailors in hot water

DRESS CLASSY, DANCE CHEESY: Psy's Gangnam Style hits Thailand's Navy.

DRESS CLASSY, DANCE CHEESY: Psy's Gangnam Style hits Thailand's Navy.
A video featuring Thai sailors dancing to K-pop rapper Psy's chart-topping Gangnam Style has landed the sailors in hot water, reported the Bangko.

The video, showing the Third Naval Command Centre sailors performing the rodeo-style dance at their base in Phuket, went viral in Thailand after it was uploaded on YouTube. The Youtube clip had more than 482,000 views as of Friday.

Some senior ranking naval officers were reportedly unhappy with the spoof, calling the video "improper."
But Third Naval Area commander Tharaton Khachitsuwan defended the making of the video, saying that it was made as part of an entertainment programme for retired personnel at an event in Phuket on Sept 26. He added that the spoof was not meant for public viewing.

"I told my subordinates that the video should be entertaining to watch and help promote unity in the unit," vice admiral Khachitsuwan told the daily. "I told them my idea that they should make it fun, probably mimicking the Gangnam Style dance moves which are so popular now, but I didn't think things would turn out this way."

Gangnam Style, which recently hit the top spot on the British music charts as well as the No. 2 spot on the US charts, has spawned numerous video parodies around the world, including one made by 14 lifeguards and pool employees in the United States who were subsequently fired after the video was uploaded on YouTube.

The video, titled Lifeguard Style, featured the 14 employees dancing in the El Monte Aquatic Center in South California, which officials said was a violation of the city's policies prohibiting the use of city resources for personal use without authorisation.

Orang Sabah Style team meets biggest fan - CM

Kota Kinabalu: The Orang Sabah Style team, which has garnered more than 3.5 million views for their viral Youtube video, met their biggest fan the Sabah Chief Minister, recently. At the official residence Sri Gaya, Datuk Seri Musa Aman sat with the lead performer, Ah Sheng, and 15 other team members for tea and a chat that lasted for more than half an hour. "We were honoured to meet him, and we appreciate him taking the time to meet us as we know he is a very busy man," said Jack Wong, 31. Wong was the director and videographer for the hugely popular Sabah parody of the Korean video, "Oppa Gangnam Style". The Sabah parody also carried a message of unity and was posted on Youtube a few days before Merdeka Day. Wong also said elements of Sabah's traditional dances were incorporated into the Gangnam parody dance moves. "We are amazed that he watched the video, and we are touched by his positive response," he said. "It was very exciting for us, especially for the younger team members," said team member, Sunny Chai Nyit Ngen, 27. Chai, an accountant, was the financial consultant for the team, and the elder brother of Chai Nyit Sheng, 19, better known as Ah Sheng. More than three quarters of the team are aged between 17 and 19, and they were rather shy during the tea, he said. "That's why the Chief Minister joked that they were so lively and outgoing in the video, but so quiet during the tea," said Geoseph Liong, 27, another team member. "He also told us that he also loved to dance," Liong added, laughing. Liong said the Chief Minister told them that what he is most proud of is not just that they promoted Sabah but highlighted through their Merdeka message that Sabah is part of Malaysia. In a personal note to them, the Chief Minister wrote: "All of Sabah is proud of you. You have done something great for Sabah and Malaysia. I hope that one day, Sabah and Malaysia can do something great for you. "I hope all of you will keep doing what you enjoy and love, and that you will achieve all your dreams one day. "What we believe is simple," said Wong. "We love our country, we love what we do. We will continue to make Malaysia proud, and make Sabah proud." Credits to Daily Express(Friday, October 05, 2012).

How to Buy a D-SLR Camera

If you've only used point-and-shoot cameras, digital single-lens-reflex (or D-SLR) models may seem intimidating and expensive—but they don't have to be. Tinkering with the many manual controls you'll find on a D-SLR to see how you can improve your shots can be fun and rewarding, and even an entry-level D-SLR will produce higher-quality photos than you can get from any pocket camera.

D-SLRs produce superior shots for a number of reasons. Mainly, they use larger image sensors, which reduce the appearance of noise that can make photos look grainy. These sensors also allow a larger dynamic range, so they can capture darker and brighter shades of colors. And because you can more freely manipulate depth of field (the area of an image that's in focus) with D-SLRs, you can, for example, choose to have your foreground in sharp focus and the background in soft focus to make subjects pop—if that's what you're going for.

In addition, D-SLRs give you greater control over operation. Because almost every feature is manually adjustable, you can tweak the way you take your photos so they look best in a variety of lighting or motion situations. You can also swap out lenses to get wide shots or increase your zoom level. D-SLRs' much faster shutter speeds mean you're less likely to miss a shot and you can take more photos in less time; fast point-and-shoots can snap a picture 0.5 second after you press the release, but a D-SLR can typically do it in about 0.1 second. D-SLRs also use an autofocusing system called phase detection, which employs a second smaller image sensor that is dedicated to autofocus-the experience is much more speedy than the contrast measurement system that point-and-shoots use.

0diggsdigg4diggsdigg
Shopping for a D-SLR isn't that much different than shopping for, say, a computer: To zoom in on the right model, first figure out your budget, and then choose the features you need. Entry-level D-SLRs start at around $500 and can go as high as several thousands of dollars when you figure in an expensive lens. (Some D-SLRs come bundled with a lens; others require you to buy the camera body and then choose a lens that you purchase separately.) The good news is we've recently seen some incredibly capable, feature-filled D-SLRs that ring up for less than $1,000 with a lens. Sure, these prices are considerably greater than what you'd pay for a pocket shooter, but because models aren't refreshed as often, D-SLRs don't get eclipsed by newer, flashier models as quickly as point-and-shoot cameras do. And the picture quality really is worth the extra money you'll have to spend.

Features
Even entry-level D-SLRs far surpass point-and-shoot cameras in terms of image quality. More expensive models have larger sensors for still better dynamic range and even less image noise (especially when used indoors without a flash), and use CMOS image sensors for much-improved image quality over what you can get from lower-end D-SLRs with CCD sensors.

Plus, just about all D-SLRs have automatic sensor cleaning, which gently vibrates the sensor to shake off loose dust that can degrade image quality.

You'll also often find LCDs that retract and swivel, and a feature called "live view" that gives you the option to frame and focus your shots with the LCD in addition to the camera's viewfinder.

Some midrange-and-higher D-SLRs can record HD video, but capturing footage is not as easy as it is on a dedicated camcorder because most D-SLRs don't allow you to autofocus in recording mode. Many models also include an HDMI port to connect the camera to an HDTV so you can view your photos or video on a big screen.

Lenses
Just as Mac-, Windows-, and Linux-based PCs can only use software compatible with one particular operating system, camera bodies and lenses typically work the same way: Nikon D-SLRs work with Nikon-branded lenses, Canon with Canon lenses, and so on. (There are some exceptions, however, including adapters and brands like Olympus that make lenses to work with Panasonic cameras.) But typically, within a brand, the lens mount on the entire camera line (from entry-level to professional models) is the same, meaning you can swap lenses between cameras at will—even traditional film-based SLRs.

The "kit lens" that typically comes packaged with a D-SLR is often limited in the amount of optical zoom it can provide. (To quickly calculate the optical zoom of a lens, divide the maximum focal length by the minimum focal length: A 28–280mm lens, for example, offers a 10x optical zoom.) Manufacturers offer many lenses that provide larger maximum focal lengths for more zoom or shorter minimum focal lengths for wider perspectives. They also typically offer lines of premium lenses that have the same focal length, but have coatings on the glass that improve light transmission. Lenses with poor light transmission produce images that are brighter in the center than on the edges (this phenomenon is called "vignetting"). Premium lenses can also be optimized to be weather resistant. Depending on what and where you plan on shooting, investing in a premium lens may be worth it—but it may cost you hundreds of dollars more than a standard lens.

Kit lenses are also typically limited to smaller maximum apertures, denoted by an f-number (typically f/3.5-5.6). Pricier lenses can offer larger apertures (typically f/2.8), which allow more light to reach the sensor, enabling faster shutter speeds in low-light conditions. Lenses with lower f-numbers are often referred to as "fast" lenses. This doesn't refer to its autofocus speed; rather, "fast" lenses offer lower f-numbers (wider apertures), allowing a D-SLR to achieve a faster shutter speed. Lenses with low f-numbers also offer shallow depth-of-field, so some elements in a frame can be in focus (sharp) while others are blurred (soft). The blur created by the out of focus area is often considered to be artistically desirable-it's called "bokeh."

Bigger Capabilities, Smaller Cameras
Right now, no manufacturer offers a camera that can fit in your pocket and produce D-SLR-quality images, but they're getting close. Compact cameras that feature image sensors as large as D-SLRs typically come with compromises. The Leica X1 and Sigma DP2 both use D-SLR-size image sensors, but neither can offer interchangeable lenses or blazing fast autofocus speeds.

New cameras from Panasonic, Olympus, and Samsung are inching towards offering an uncompromised D-SLR experience in a much more compact body. The Olympus E-P1 and the Editors' Choice Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 are both smaller than D-SLRs, but they offer much more than compact point-and-shoot cameras including interchangeable lenses, faster focusing speeds, and higher-quality images. The Samsung NX10 offers a similar experience, but this camera is slightly larger and isn't compatible with the Micro-Four-Thirds lenses that work with Panasonic and Olympus cameras. Sony has also announced that it will introduce a competitor in this market, which is expected to hit store shelves later this year.

Before you head to the store, check out the reviews linked below to help bring the best D-SLR for your needs and your budget into focus.
