When Windows XP networking gets deeply wedged, you will be get no information from ipconfig.
From a command prompt, type:
ipconfig |
If all you get back is:
Windows IP Configuration |
Then your TCP/IP network stack not running.
Solution: Re-install TCP/IP.
To reinstall TCP/IP, follow these steps:
- From a Windows Explorer, navigate to My Network Places.
- Right-click and choose Properties.
- Select Local Area Connection, right-click and choose Properties. If the Properties windows is empty, reboot and start over.
- Click the Install… button, select Protocol from the list.
- Click the Add… button.
- Click the Have Disk… button.
- Type in or click Browse… to select the file C:\WINDOWS\inf\nettcpip.inf, click OK
- Select Microsoft from the left-hand list.
- Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) from the right-hand list.
- Click OK.
- Click Close.
- Reboot
